Copytrax Launches Combined CD Printer and Copying System
Cambridge digital media experts Copytrax have announce the release of the FlexWriter, a new system that enables the professional production of CD and DVD based products. The FlexWriter systems target low to medium volume production and will appeal to companies such as recording studios, video production companies, software production companies and computer game developers.
The FlexWriter is a fully automated machine than can print and copy up to 225 discs at the press of a button. Using a full-colour 4800 DPI printhead, the FlexWriter is able to deliver a professional quality print finish, enabling the system to be used for even the most demanding projects. The system also employs very high quality Pioneer Professional CD-DVD Recorders that provide high-speed writing and ensure playback quality.

"The FlexWriter system are very impressive," said Steve Woods, Managing Director of Copytrax. "They are very reliable and provide a very consistent performance, making them ideal for professional duplication where lower and medium production volume is required. This is a very active part of the market because today's software products tend to be updated more regularly and production needs to be much more flexible. For companies such as software developers, the FlexWriter will enable them to reduce stock levels and more easily ship out new releases at the earliest opportunity."
Copytrax develops a range of CD printing technologies; from their industrial Project37 CD printing machines (1200 CD's per hour) down to their smaller Da Vinci desktop machines, Copytrax has gained a reputation worldwide for quality and innovation in the duplication and printing of optical disc media. Copytrax has led the way in the shift away from the traditional screen printing of CD and DVD media toward more flexible and faster digital inkjet solutions.
"The CD and DVD still remains the most popular storage medium for digital data," said Steve Woods. "With places such as China, India and the Middle East now coming on stream we are seeing a lot of demand for this type of CD publishing technology. Also the shift away from screen printing towards the cleaner and faster digital technology also means that this type of technology is gaining market share in the CD and DVD production industry."
The FlexWriter CD publishing system is available in a range of capacities and is also subject to a two year warranty. Each system comes with a software package called FlexWare, a professional software package that provides high end Networkable Publishing. Copytrax Enables a New Generation of Data Security with Self Encrypting Compact Disc
Digital media experts Copytrax have announced that they will be launching a new form of compact disc at GC 2008expo, the leading public sector ICT event in the UK, to be held in London on the 10th and 11th June.
The new CD uses powerful encryption technology to secure data within the CD, only allowing access with the correct password.
"This is a very well thought out and sophisticated technology, explained Steve Woods, Managing Director of Copytrax. "Anyone within an organisation will be able to save files and data to CD and know that without the password, there is absolutely no way anyone will be able to access the data. With the recent media coverage of lost data, we expect this technology to be of particular interest to IT managers in the public sector."
Cambridge based Copytrax are a leader in digital media duplication. They have been at the forefront of this technology since the days of floppy disks and continue to be a world leader in the development of machines that print and duplicate digital media products such as CDs, USB memory sticks and USB business cards. The new CD format is called " CDSoft-R Crytpex " and the encryption engine is contained within each disc, meaning that no software needs to be loaded onto the computer and that the CD will work on any machine.
"With the encryption engine built into each CD, this also means that there is no risk of residual information being left on a computer," said Steve Woods. "Indeed, the system provides a virtual keyboard for password creation, thus avoiding 'key stroke' spying. As I say, it's been well thought out and even the robust physical construction of the disc offers double protection against scratching and ultra violet rays to ensure the data is safe."
Copytrax expects to soon be providing this new CD format to organisations such as health authorities, police departments, council departments, software developers and many other organisations that cannot risk having data fall into the wrong hands. They envisage supplying the new format CDs with the customers' own branding, enabling users to clearly understand who owns the data and to ensure that employees only use encrypted CDs for critical information.
"We think that our new CD format will change the way organisations handle data," said Steve. "Rather than having commerical blank CDs with no markings, we'll be providing customers with high quality, encryptable, branded CDs that clearly indicate ownership, copyright obligations and the fact that without the password the CD will be of no value whatsoever."
GC 2008expo is the leading public sector ICT event in the UK and provides IT managers with access to new technology and new ideas to help them undertake future projects. Copytrax will be exhibiting a range of digital media reproduction technologies. The event takes place at Earls Court, London on the 10 th and 11 th June. www.gcexpo.com

Shifts in CD and DVD Market Play to the Strengths of Copytrax Technology
With the emergence of music available as 'downloads' and films being 'streamed' over broadband, it would seem that the future of the 'Compact Disc' is under threat and that those in the CD and DVD duplication industry should hanging up their boots. The fact is, the CD and DVD duplication market is still very much alive and maybe more alive than ever. Yes there have been changes in the nature of this market, but many of those changes have opened up new and rewarding opportunities.
Copytrax develops and manufactures a new generation of Industrial CD and DVD printing machines. Whereas such machines used to be based on traditional screen-printing and offset techniques and were very much geared to very high volume printing, Copytrax's modern technology is based on advanced industrial digital inkjet technology. This modern approach not only reduces chemical waste and environmental pollution but can also handle short runs and on-press proofs as easily as long runs of production. This is where market changes have driven demand for Copytrax's technology. Continuous high volume production is becoming something of the past. Today, this market demands fast turnaround short run production.
The new Project 37DS digital inkjet industrial CD printing machine
"Retailers are not happy to warehouse thousands of CD's anymore," said Steve Woods, Managing Director of Copytrax. "Instead, they want 'just in time' delivery of smaller batches, so that they can minimise stock levels, storage costs and handling costs. This is causing a trend away from traditional silk screen techniques that need a lot of setting up and are better suited to long production runs."
Copytrax's Project 37 machines are able to digitally print up to 1200 CD's per hour whilst delivering photo realistic quality and a UV finish. Companies around the world are adopting Project 37 technology to enable them to meet the demands of the new CD and DVD duplication market. Using a Project 37 machine, the entire process is computer controlled and whether it is a one off sample, a 5 disc set or a short run of 5000 CD's, the process is the same. It is this new level of production flexibility and speed of turnaround that is helping CD and DVD duplicators meet customer requirements.

The Project 37 CD printing machine in action
"The good news is that when a customer requires lower volumes in a shorter timescale, the business tends to becomes more profitable," said Steve Woods. "This doesn't just apply to the film and music industry. We are seeing the same trend with developers of software products, multi-media marketing and academic and science based customers."
Along with smaller but more regular CD duplication order volumes, Copytrax has noted a demand for better quality print finishing within the DVD industry and the marketing industry. In these markets, the visual appearance of compact disc is seen to add value to the product, reflecting the excellence of the material contained within the CD or DVD. In addition to this, the music, film, games and software industries now tend to release a number of updated versions of a specific product. In this respect, these companies do not wish to be holding large stocks, should they be left with outdated version on the shelf. Again, this is driving the market towards, smaller but more regular production runs.
"There has been a number of trends that we have been keeping an eye on," said Steve Woods. "I've been spending time with customers in Europe, the US and the Middle East and much of the feedback that I've received is influencing the design of our range of Project 37 machines. These will be very much geared to meeting the quality and flexibility that our customers need for the new CD and DVD duplication market. I'm confident that Copytrax will continue to lead the way in digital CD and DVD printing technology."
Copytrax manufacture a range of machines, the Picasso CD printer for small batch production, the Project 37D for mid volume production and the Project 37S & DS for industrial volume production. New designs set for 2008 include important upgrades to the existing Project 37 designs that will further improve the return on investment that this equipment is able to deliver.
The Project 37D mid-range industrial CD printing machine
"One of our US customers calls our machines a "business in a box" because of how powerful they are at generating profit," said Steve Woods. "It's good to know that people are still making highly profitable business out of optical disc technology."
Copytrax is also able to supply CD and DVD duplication technology as well as complete business packages with technical training and business finance solutions; enabling companies to start generating profit within the first few months of business.

Copytrax Project 37D CD Printer To Address Mid Volume CD and DVD Printing Market
Pioneers in digital print technology, Copytrax, have announced the release of their Project 37D CD and DVD printer that has been designed to address the market for mid volume CD and DVD printing.

Mid volume CD production is currently undertaken using traditional silk-screen methods and often involves tooling and set up procedures. The new Project 37D is a fully automated machine that can handle print runs of up to 1000 CD's per hour whilst providing on-press proofing and photo-realistic image quality. The Project 37D is expected to open up the CD and DVD printing market to general printing companies looking to broaden their offering as well as traditional silk screen printing companies that are seeking to migrate to digital technology.
“Within the print industry, there is definitely a shift from silk screen printing towards more modern digital print solutions,” said Steve Woods. “Digital print technology provides much more flexibility with regards print volumes and the handling of multiple versions of say a software package or DVD. In addition to this, there are no tooling requirements, no setting up or handling of films or screens and less labour. The whole process is controlled from a PC and is fast and very effective, making it, commercially, a very attractive technology for the competitive CD and DVD printing market.”
The original Project 37 machine targeted the high volume industrial CD and DVD printing market whereas the new 37D has all the same attributes but has been scaled down to meet the needs of the medium volume production runs. The Project 37D is less expensive and takes up less room than the current Project 37 design but uses the same internal technology that provides high picture and text definition, a fully automated CD and DVD handling process and also provides each CD with a protective UV coating.
“The 37D contains a lot of powerful technology and will offer CD printers the opportunity to improve both the quality of their print and also the level of service that they can offer their customers,” said Steve Woods. “Whether it's the ability of our colour matching software to ensure consistent print performance over large and fragmented print runs, or the fact that a job change can take only 10 seconds, or the fact that our inkjet control software can save up to 30% on ink costs, we feel sure that the Project 37D will further establish Copytrax as a leader in the development of technology for digital printing solutions.”
For CD and DVD printers interested in exploring the benefits of moving to digital print technology, Copytrax hold regular demonstrations at their Cambridge based factory. Copytrax can also provide detailed cost analysis information that provides a valuable insight into the cost benefits of using digital print technology for industrial printing.

Copytrax Promises Faster, Better and Cheaper CD and DVD Printing
Leading developer of CD and DVD printers, Copytrax, has announced the availability of a new 'colour management' technology that they say will enable CD and DVD duplication companies to increase profitability and provide better quality print on optical disc media.
Steve Woods, MD Copytrax
Whilst developing their Project 37 bulk CD and DVD printing machine, Copytrax has introduced a new technology that automatically calibrates the machine to take into account performance and colour variations due to the differing surface profiles of CD's and DVD's, inconsistencies in ink types and the variable performance of the actual print heads. This colour management technology is now available for their Picasso smaller batch machines, both as an upgrade to many Picasso machines that exist worldwide and also as a new feature to all future Picasso CD and DVD printing machines.
"The Copytrax Colour Controller product that we are rolling out is being very well received," said Steve Woods, Managing Director of Copytrax. "In the past, a kind of trial and error approach has been used to set up a machine for CD and DVD printing, to ensure the colours are correct and the overall quality is acceptable. Those involved in CD printing will know that this is very time consuming and very wasteful. The new technology completely automates this process, enabling far more time to be dedicated to profitable production and also offers a consistently higher quality of print."
Copytrax claims that the new colour management technology also saves on ink costs, as the previous approach often led to 'over inking'. The new system enables the operator to use only the minimum ink required and has proven to save up to 20% on ink usage.
"Another major benefit of the new colour management systems is that it will set an industry standard," said Steve Woods. "It will enable CD and DVD printers to produce consistent colour performance when printing a CD or DVD, especially when the CD or DVD production is spread across different machines and different geographical locations. In fact, the calibration data can be stored as a file, so that you can be sure that future print runs will also be an identical colour match."
Copytrax are also celebrating the winning of a UK Research and Development Grant that will help fund enhancements to their Project 37 industrial CD and DVD printing machine. Although Copytrax are reluctant to disclose any information about this new project, it is understood that it will further enhance the commercial performance of the Project 37 machines and also address environmental issues relating to CD and DVD printing technologies.
"We are really pleased with this Award," said Steve Woods. "We feel that this shows that Copytrax is valued for its role within the Cambridge Technology sector and acknowledges the effort and expertise that Copytrax invests in this field. We have some great ideas and this funding will help us put our ideas into action and enable us to launch certain technologies sooner than we had been expecting."
